The Netherlands

So I am sure some of you have travelled to the Netherlands and more specifically, Amsterdam. The city which you may know as having an abundance of coffee shops, accessible red light districts, drunken tourists etc etc etc. I am also sure however that you have in no way experiences as a local. For those about to embark on the notorious tourist hot spot, pay attention and check this list off as you go…

Best cafe
Lola Bikes & Coffee where coffee and bikes combine for local hipsters and cyclists. With a piano, free wifi and the occasional Angus & Julia Stone track being played this is a nice one to feel at home. Lola is in The Hague, about 40 minutes on the train from Amsterdam. A cute day trip.

Best ribs
Cafe de Klos an absolute must for rib lovers and the best part… they come and collect you when your table is ready from the pub across the road. Need I say more? A tip… go for the original not smoked 😉

Best pub
Brouwerij’t ij is an infamous brewery in Amsterdam located literally in a windmill. Make sure you get the cheese and salami (Dutch beer snacks) with the celery salt. Nom nom.

Best neighbourhood
Jordaan. The Amsterdam that you see in movies and TV shows. Jordaan is the postcard Amsterdam. Free of tourist traps and coffee shops and full of canals, cafes, home ware shops and greenery. This is the luxury living Amsterdam 15 minutes on foot from the train station. Head to the 9 streets for hipster Dutch wine bars and brunch.

What’s up, I read your new stuff regularly. Your story-telling style is witty, keep doing what you’re doing!

A different take on your blog. Good info and worth following Hols. All from experience.

Hey there

This is a collection of tastes from my tables abroad… wherever that may be. I spend my days professionally food writing my nights recipe developing flavours from my adventures.

I am at my happiest when sharing food with my favourite people. I care deeply about nourishing our bodies with goodness. I don’t believe in dieting, I don’t believe in fads, I believe in feeding your body simply with home made deliciousness.
